How to configure Outlook Express to use the Collabra News Server

Step 1

Open Outlook Express and select Accounts... from the Tools menu.

Select Add then News...

Step 2

Enter your display name that will be used for your postings.

Enter your E-mail address for replies/responses.

Enter the name for the Collabra news (NNTP) server: collabra1.monash.edu.au,

and tick the My news server requires me to log on box.

Now enter your Authcate user account name (and password if you wish) - this will be supplied to you by Monash University.

If your PC is used by multiple users it is recommended that you leave the password blank and do not check remember password:

Select Next, then Finish, followed by Close in the Internet Accounts window.

Step 3

You will be asked if you would like to download newsgroups from the news server.

You have two approaches now available:

(1) Subscribe via your Subject page

Click on No.

Go to your GSCIT subject page (not My.Monash) and click on the News links across the top of your page, this will switch you to Outlook Express. Right click the news group and select Subscribe.

OR

(2) Subscribe direct from the Collabra Server

Click on Yes.

This will either directly download the Collabra newsgroups or prompt you for a password, if you left it blank above (as a security measure).

If required enter your password and select OK, Outlook Express will download the Collabra newsgroups and list all the current groups for you to scroll through and select those you wish to read or subscribe to.
