GippsWEB Judging Criteria

Each website will be judged against a comprehensive set of criteria. The criteria is grouped into 9 categories, covering both content and presentation. To achieve a high judgment of your web site you should aim to get an overall high mark in each criteria. Each criteria is rated on a scale of 1 (poor) to 4 (excellent).

Section 1: Content

1.1 Breadth and Depth of Information  

    1. Information is readable and error-free
    2. Completeness of information
    3. Accuracy of information
    4. Value of information
    5. Depth of coverage
    6. Breadth of coverage
    7. Cohesion

1.2 Suitably Defined Target Audience

    1. The user can readily identify the intended audience of the site
    2. Content and vocabulary are age-appropriate for intended audience

1.3 Relevance of Information to Target Audience 

    1. Up-to-date information
    2. Links are relevant to the subject
    3. The page fulfils the intended purpose and is suitable for target audience
    4. Intuitiveness of usage

1.4 Acknowledgement of Information Sources 

    1. Information supported by references wherever applicable

1.5 Distinctness of Information 

    1. Information is not unnecessarily duplicated

Section 2: Presentation

2.1 Consistent Site Design 

    1. Consistency across site
    2. Links are logically grouped

2.2 Appropriateness of Site Design 

      1. Browser-independent appearance
      2. Ease of navigation
      3. Organisation of site, including options presented on front page
      4. Effectiveness of hyperlink usage
      5. Ease of use of hyperlinks to refer to other pages
      6. Linkage back to front page from other pages
      7. Icons clearly represent what was intended from their use
      8. Correctness of spelling and grammar
      9. Correct working of links
      10. Appropriate breaking up of large complex pages into multiple smaller pages
      11. Short, informative and descriptive titles on every page
      12. Information is presented in a logical ordered manner

2.3 Appropriate Balance Between Text and other Elements (Graphics/Animation/Sound) 

      1. Typeface styles and background colours make the pages clear and readable
      2. Sounds, graphics, video or animation suitably enhance the web site's message
      3. Images are used to convey information, and are not purely for decoration
      4. Text well written, not wordy

2.4 Enjoyment Afforded by Site Presentation 

      1. The site loads suitably fast
      2. Pleasantness of colours
      3. Page presentation is eye-catching
      4. The site engages the visitor to spend time browsing
      5. Website is self contained
